ELIZABETHTOWN — Deontray Bellamy and Ayden Scott combined for 23 points to lead West Columbus to a 42-39 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Elizabethtown Monday night.

Bellamy threw in 9 of his 12 points in the 2nd half as the Warriors overcame a 20-18 Cougar halftime lead. Scott scored 7 of his 11 points after intermission. Teammate Charlie McLeod tallied 8 points.

J. J. High popped in 2 baskets in the 1st quarter, and Fox Sutton nailed a 3-point shot. Jayden Lewis and Tykee Hill dropped in a basket each as Elizabethtown grabbed an 11-10 lead.

Sutton and Julian McLaney buried 3-point shots for the Cougars in the 2nd period. Prince McKoy tossed in a basket, and Hill netted a free throw to keep the Cougars on top 20-18.

Lewis poured in 4 baskets in the 3rd quarter, but the Warriors edged ahead 31-28. Lewis sank 2 free throws and a basket in the final period. High drilled in a 3-point shot, and Hill and Damian Maynor pumped in a basket each. However the Warriors held on for the win.

Lewis topped all scorers with 14 points for Elizabethtown. High totaled 7 points, and Sutton finished with 6 points. Hill followed with 5 points.

The Cougars, now 2-4, will visit Tar Heel Thursday night. West Columbus will host East Columbus Thursday. night.
