TABOR CITY – Lafon Monroe scored 4 touchdowns Tuesday night to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 44-20 Waccamaw Middle School Conference victory over Williams.

The Blue Devils jumped in front early as Nyquan Richardson returned the opening kick-off 70 yards for a touchdown, then ran the 2-point conversion for an early 8-0 lead. It was Richardson’s second kick-off return for a touchdown of the season.

After stopping Williams, the Blue Devils scored again as Monroe broke loose and scooted 60 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

On the next Clarkton possession, Monroe darted around right end on a 40-yard touchdown run. Fullback Masion Brooks barreled into the end zone for the 2-point conversion and a 22-0 lead.

Monroe scampered 30 yards for another touchdown that put the Blue Devils up 28-8 at halftime.

Brooks banged through the line and charged into the end zone from 8 yards for a Clarkton touchdown in the third quarter. Monroe ran the 2-point conversion as the lead grew to 36-8.

Monroe bolted 30 yards for the final Blue Devil touchdown, and Richardson caught a 2-point conversion pass from quarterback Lee Barnes.

“I think we scored about every time that we had the football,” said Blue Devil Coach Robert Mazur. “We found an opening that worked early on and we kept going to it.”

Monroe totaled almost 200 yards in the game with the 4 touchdowns and a 2-point conversion.

The Blue Devils, now 2-0, will host Acme-Delco Tuesday night.
