TAR HEEL – Seth Pierce scored the winning touchdown on a 2-yard run with 40 seconds left to play as West Columbus rallied for a 20-16 Waccamaw Middle School Conference football victory over Tar Heel Tuesday night.

The Panthers took the opening kick-off and drove for a touchdown. Ke’Arean Ballard banged into the end zone from 5 yards out for the touchdown then ran the 2-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

Jaylen Bellamy answered with a Viking touchdown with 3:26 left in the quarter, and Chris Willis tacked on the 2-point conversion run to tie the game 8-8.

Willis raced 34 yards for a second quarter touchdown that put West Columbus ahead 14-8 at halftime.

Ballard ran for another Tar Heel touchdown with 1:30 left in the third quarter, and once again Ballard carried into the end zone for the 2-point conversion and a 16-14 Panther lead.

The Panthers have been on the short end of several close games this season, giving up late touchdowns to Acme-Delco and West Columbus. “Tar Heel has a good group of kids this year,” said Panther Coach Andy Clark.

Tar Heel will play Hallsboro next Tuesday night.
