BLADENBORO – Center AnnaGrey Heustess fired in 9 of her game-high 16 points in the final period as Clarkton School of Discovery pulled away for 28-20 Waccamaw Middle School girls basketball victory over Bladenboro Monday.
The Lady Blue Devils held a slim 14-13 lead at the third quarter break, but Heustess dropped in four baskets and a free throw, and Maegan Burney and Shy’Asia Ratliff added baskets during a 14-7 closing run.
MaKayla Wright tossed in 2 baskets and a free throw, and Rylee Chadwick scored a basket to keep Bladenboro close.
Wright and Lainey Autry led the Lady Bulldog scoring with 7 points each. Chadwick finished with 6 points. Burney scored 5 points for Clarkton.
Heustess sank 2 free throws and a basket to put CSD up 4-0 in the first quarter then popped in another basket and a free throw in the second quarter.
Autry drained a 3-point shot and another basket for the Lady Bulldogs in the second quarter, and Chadwick pumped in a pair of baskets to trim the Clarkton lead to 12-9 at halftime.
Wright and Autry threw in baskets in the third quarter, and Burney answered with a basket to keep the Lady Blue Devils ahead 14-13.
Coach Chris Callihan’s Lady Blue Devils take a 2-0 record into the Christmas break. Bladenboro drops to 1-1.
