WHITEVILLE – Guard Montiera Richardson and forward Nevaeh Brown combined for 24 points Thursday to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 33-26 Waccamaw Middle School Conference ‘A’ Division girls’ basketball victory over Williams Township.

Coach Hakeem Swindell’s Lady Blue Devils had already clinched the Waccamaw ‘A’ League championship, but Thursday’s win improved their final record to 7-1 in league play and 9-2 overall.

Richardson scored all 13 of her points in the 2nd half, and Brown tossed in 9 of her 11 points after halftime. Tyliah Freeman rang up all 5 of her points for Clarkton in the 1st half.

Freeman bombed in a 3-point shot, and Brown popped in a basket to keep the Lady Blue Devils even 5-5 early. Another Freeman basket edged CSD in front 7-6 at halftime.

Both offenses woke up in the 3rd quarter. Richardson fired in 3 baskets, and Brown sank 2 free throws and a basket. Ellie Kinlaw and Paris Jenkins netted a basket each for Clarkton as the Lady Blue Devils opened up a 21-15 lead.

Richardson blistered the nets with 3 more baskets and a free throw in the final period, and Brown worked the paint for 2 baskets and a free throw to keep Clarkton on top.

McKenzie Spivey poured in 16 of her game-high 21 points for Williams in the 2nd half.
