WHITEVILLE – Azarion “Archie” Willis fired in 16 points Thursday night to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 38-30 Waccamaw Middle School Conference ‘A’ Division boys’ basketball victory over Williams Township.

It was the first conference win of the season for Coach Robert Mazur’s Blue Devils who finished their season with a 1-7 league record and 2-9 overall mark.

Hunter Wood buried a pair of 3-point shots in the opening quarter, JaQuan McRae banged in a pair of baskets, and Willis drained a 3-point shot and a free throw as the Blue Devils jumped in front 14-7.

Willis nailed a pair of 3-point shots, another basket and a free throw in the 2nd period. McRae popped in a basket to help keep the Blue Devil lead at 25-16.

Center Topher Callihan and Willis dropped in baskets in the 3rd quarter for the winners, and McRae cashed in a free throw as Clarkton maintained a 30-23 lead.

Clarkton connected on 8 of 15 free throws in the 4th quarter to hold on their lead. Callihan made all 3 of his foul shots. Omar Powell, McRae and Willis tallied 2 free throws each.

McRae followed Willis on the Blue Devil scoring list with 9 points. Wood finished with 6 points, and Callihan chipped in with 5 points. P. Smith led the Williams scoring with 14 points, and J. Watts collected 7 points.
