ELIZABETHTOWN – Ariel Cromartie and Nia McKoy combined for 15 points Thursday to lead Elizabethtown to a 23-16 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory over West Columbus.

Cromartie led the Lady Cougars with 8 points, and McKoy was right behind her with 7 points. Teammate Niyah Wooten scored 4 points. Iyanna Lowery topped the West Columbus scoring with 8 points, and Valashia Murchison added 6 points.

McKoy fired in a 3-point shot and a free throw in the opening quarter, and teammates Cromartie and Sanaa Singletary threw in baskets as Elizabethtown grabbed an 8-2 lead.

Wooten, McKoy and Hailey Bennett tossed in a basket each, and McKoy tacked on a free throw as the Lady Cougars built a 15-3 halftime lead.

Cromartie dropped in the only basket for Elizabethtown in the 3rd period as the Lady Warriors trimmed the lead to 17-10. Cromartie popped in 2 baskets in the final quarter to seal the verdict, and Wooten tossed in another basket.

Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars raised their record to 4-6 with the victory.
