ELIZABETHTOWN — Sana’a Singletary and Ellen Battle dominated the inside play with 22 points and led Elizabethtown to a 31-13 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Thursday.
Singletary battled inside for 12 points, and Battle worked the paint for 10 points for the Lady Cougars. Teammate Racquel Whittington tossed in 5 points, and Zariyahh Riddy added 4 points.
Aniya Willis pumped in 7 points to lead the Lady Blue Devils scoring. Teammate Hailey Taylor tallied 4 points.
Singletary sparked the Lady Cougars to an 11-0 early lead dropping in 2 baskets and 2 free throws. Battle and Whittington threw in a basket each in the quarter, and Riddy made a free throw.
Singletary powered in another basket, and Riddy tacked on a free throw as the Elizabethtown lead grew to 14-3 at halftime. Willis popped in a basket and a free throw for the Clarkton points.
Battle banged in 2 more baskets in the 3rd quarter, and Singletary, Whittington and Riddy flipped in a basket each as the lead swelled to 24-5. Imani Bowens rang up a CSD basket in the quarter.
Willis and Taylor rallied the Lady Blue Devils scoring 2 baskets each in the final period. Battle fired in 2 baskets for Elizabethtown. Singletary chipped in with another basket, and Whittington swished a free throw.
Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars improved to 2-1 and will travel to Whiteville Central Tuesday. Clarkton, now 2-2, will visit West Columbus Thursday.
