CERRO GORDO — D. Powell powered in 10 points to lead West Columbus to a 22-15 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory over Tar Heel Thursday.

Abigail Dew threw in a 1st period basket for Tar Heel, and Serenity Council nailed a 3-point shot, another basket and a free throw to keep the Lady Panthers within 14-8 at halftime.

Council buried another 3-point shot in the 3rd quarter, and Dew tossed in a basket to trim the Lady Warrior lead to 16-13. Dew rang up another basket in the final period, but a pair of Powell baskets iced the win for WC.

Council topped the Lady Panther scoring with 9 points, and Dew finished with 6 points.

Tar Heel, now 0-3, will visit Williams Township Tuesday.
