WHITEVILLE – Clarkton School of Discovery raced to a 7-0 lead en route to an 8-3 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory over Whiteville Central Tuesday night.
Karli Priest, Emma Turbeville and Addie Bowen drew walks to begin the game, and Shy’Asia Ratliff belted a 2-run single. Priest, Turbeville and Bowen all scored for a 3-0 Lady Blue Devil lead.
AnnaGrey Heustess legged out an infield hit to start the second inning. Priest was hit by a pitch, and Turbeville smacked a single that scored Heustess and Priest to boost the lead to 5-0.
Bowen walked, and Ratliff swatted a single to begin the Clarkton fifth inning. Lena Trinidad blasted a triple that scored Bowen, but Ratliff was called out for missing third base. Megan Burney delivered a single that scored Trinidad for a 7-0 CSD lead.
Two infield hits led to a Central run in the fourth, but Clarkton answered in the fifth. Bowen laced a single and scored to push the Lady Blue Devil lead to 8-1.
An error, a triple and a single produced two Lady Hornet runs in the sixth inning.
Ratliff batted 2-4 and drove in 2 runs for the Lady Blue Devils. Heustess finished 2-4 at the plate and scored a run. Trinidad tripled home a run and scored a run. Priest doubled and scored twice, Turbeville cracked the 2-run single and scored a run. Bowen singled and scored 3 runs. Burney drove in a run with a single.
Priest pitched a 6-hitter and struck out 11 batters. All three Central runs were unearned.
Coach Jordan Raynor’s Lady Blue Devils improved to 9-2 overall and will travel to Williams Township Thursday for a key AA Divison game.
