ELIZABETHTOWN – West Columbus overcame Elizabethtown leads of 7-3 and 11-8 with 13 runs in the final 2 innings and defeated the Lady Cougars 21-12 in Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball action Tuesday.

Niyah Wooten blasted a 3-run home run that highlighted a 7-run 1st inning for Elizabethtown. A’Nide McKibben and Nyasia Banks also belted singles and scored runs as the Lady Cougars went up 7-3.

Ariel Cromartie, McKibben and Banks smacked singles in the 2nd inning as Elizabethtown scored 4 runs to leap back in front 11-8. However, the Lady Vikings scored 6 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 14-11 lead and tacked on 7 more runs in the 4th inning.

Banks finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and scored 2 runs. McKibben batted 2-for-3 and scored 3 times. Wooten slugged the 3-run homer. Hailey Bennett was hit by pitches twice, walked and scored 2 runs. Cromartie singled and scored a run. Aaluyah Monroe and Cylee Lugenbill were both hit by pitches and scored runs. Nia McKoy reached base on an error and scored a run.

Cromartie, Bennett and Wooten shared the pitching duties for Elizabethtown and were plagued by 15 walks and 7 hit batters but gave up only 3 hits. S. Collins, D. Powell and V. Murchison connected for 1 hit each for West Columbus. K. Blackwell started in the circle for the Lady Vikings.

Elizabethtown is slated to host East Columbus Wednesday at 4 p.m.
