GREENWOOD, SC – Tar Heel native Rahu Purdie racked up 22 points and 7 rebounds to lead Lander to a 67-64 victory over Erskine Thursday night.
The 5-9 guard scored 10 points during a 24-9 closing run that rallied the Bearcats from a 55-43 deficit. Purdie pulled up for a jumper and drained a 3-point shot to close the gap to 57-50 with 7:12 left to play.
Purdie turned a J. R. Washington assist into a driving lay-up and a 3-point play that tied the game 60-60 at the 1:54 mark. With 8 seconds left Purdie made 2 free throws that padded the Bearcat lead to 67-64.
For the game Purdie connected on 7 of 12 shots from the field and nailed 4 of 6 three-point attempts. The West Bladen grad made 4 of 5 foul shots and also dished out 3 assists.
Purdie bombed in a pair of 3-point shots in the first half and added a free throw. After intermission he popped in another jumper and buried a 3-pointer with 9:52 remaining.
The Bearcats evened their record at 3-3 and will travel to Wingate Monday for a 7 p.m. game.
