White Oak native Rahu Purdie fired in 12 points Saturday as his Lander Bearcats posted a 72-64 Peach Belt Conference basketball at Augusta University.
Purdie connected on 5 of 7 shots from the floor, was 2 for 3 from behind the 3-point arc and grabbed 2 rebounds.
The West Bladen grad drained a 3-point shot with 14:29 remaining in the first half that tied the game 8-8. Purdie popped in a jump shot 4:35 before halftime that capped a 6-1 Bearcat run and put the visitors ahead 28-19. Lander led 33-25 at halftime.
Purdie buried another 3-point shot with 9:04 left to play then pumped in another jump shot at the 8:21 mark to stretch the Bearcat lead to 53-43. The 5-9 freshman canned another jump shot with 3 minutes left that kept the Lander lead at 65-55.
The Bearcats improved to 5-1 in the Peach Belt and 11-4 overall. Lander will host USC-Aiken Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
