CLINTON – Sophomore quarterback Hunter Hester fired a pair of touchdown passes to junior Hezekiah Adams as West Bladen rallied for a 20-10 football scrimmage victory over Hobbton Friday night in the Sampson Football Jamboree.

Hester connected on 3 of 7 passes for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns. Adams caught all 3 of Hester’s completions for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Knights opened the scoring as Adams snared a 24-yard touchdown pass from Hester. On their next possession, a high snap was recovered in their own end zone by West Bladen for a safety that whittled the margin to 6-2.

Wildcat quarterback Cole Weeks hurled a 55-yard touchdown pass to Ashawd Wynn, and Hobbton tacked on an extra point run for a 10-6 lead. Weeks completed 12 of 19 passes for 143 yards. Wynn had 5 receptions for 59 yards, and teammate Garret Britt had 4 catches for 66 yards.

Adams hauled in an 83-yard touchdown pass from Hester that vaulted the Knights in front 12-10. Senior Messyah Whitted raced 68 yards for the final Knight touchdown, and West added the extra point. Whitted finished with 82 yards rushing on 4 carries.

Knight Coach Stanley Williams was impressed with his team’s ‘heart’. “Things could have went south quickly but we battled. Defense had a great turn out. Their TD was off a tipped pass that fell in the receiver’s hands. The offense has got to catch up.”

Williams added, “Things went a lot better tonight (than Wednesday), but we still have a long way to go.”

Seniors Aaron Lewis and Jahmar Richardson led the Knight defense with 4 tackles each. Kamarie Washington sacked the quarterback for -6 yards.

The Knights will open regular season play Friday night at South Columbus. Game time is 7:30.
