A funeral service for Sayaun Ahpure Dent is scheduled Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. at West Bladen High School. Burial will be in the Baldwin Branch Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.

Dent, who was 23, died April 8 when the vehicle he was driving was struck by a pickup truck that ran a stop sign at the intersection of NC 41 and Marsh Road, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Dent received all-conference honors in each of his 3 years on the West Bladen varsity basketball team and led the Knights to a 60-23 record. He helped Sandhills Community College win the 2020 NJCAA Division III national championship, scoring 27 points in the title game and being named the Most Valuable Player in the national tournament.
