ELIZABETHTOWN – A 10-run 6th inning broke open a 7-2 game and propelled Heide Trask to a 17-3 Waccamaw Conference softball victory over East Bladen Friday night.

East Bladen, now 1-7 in league play and 3-8 overall, will host West Columbus Tuesday night. Trask improved to 5-1 in Waccamaw play and 10-1 overall and will visit South Columbus Tuesday night.

The Lady Titans capitalized on 5 hits, 3 errors, 2 walks and a hit batsman to score the 10 runs in the 6th. Junior Shelby Groves and sophomore Lauren Hall slugged solo home runs to start the inning, and senior Chloe Barnhill and Groves slammed doubles.

Groves doubled and scored on a Barnhill single in the 1st inning. Two errors produced another Lady Titan run in the 2nd. An error and singles by Naima Shepard, Logan Fennell and Taylor Sparkman plated 2 more Trask runs in the 3rd inning. Hall’s 2-run home run and a Fennell run-scoring single widened the gap to 7-0 in the 4th.

Sophomore Jenna Brice lined a single to left to start the East half of the 4th. Freshman Tatum Allen walked, and freshman Nevaeh Brown, the courtesy runner for Brice, darted home on a passed ball. Freshman Jamiee Perkins hammered a double to left that scored Allen and trimmed the margin to 7-2.

Brown ripped a single past 2nd base in the Lady Eagle 6th inning. Brown advanced on an error, raced to 3rd base on Perkins’ single then scored on sophomore Cabria Baldwin’s fielder’s choice.

Perkins batted 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in to lead the East hitters. Allen ripped a double and scored a run. Brice, junior Mollie Tolar and Brown added a single each. Baldwin drove in a run, and Brown scored twice.

Brice started in the circle and pitched 5-plus innings allowing 10 runs – 9 earned – on 15 hits and struck out 1. Sophomore Niyah Wooten worked 1 inning of relief and allowed 7 runs – 4 earned – on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2.

Groves batted 3-for-5 with a home run, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored for Trask. Hall finished 2-for-5 with 2 home runs, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Barnhill was 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Shepard batted 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored. Fennell was 2-for-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Reece-Murray was 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored.

Barnhill pitched 6 innings for the Lady Titans allowing 3 runs – 2 earned – on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6.
