DUNN – Sophomore Jordyn Christopher pitched a 6-hitter and struck out 7 batters to lead Midway to a 5-1 softball victory in the Southeastern Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Senior Mallory Baggett smacked a double in the Lady Raider 3rd inning and scored on Sara Autry’s bunt single for a 1-0 lead. Baggett walked in the 5th inning and advanced on Eva McLamb’s bunt single. An error and sophomore Karabeth Benton’s single scored both runners for a 3-0 lead.

Two errors, another Baggett double and Autry’s sacrifice fly tacked on 2 more Midway runs in the 6th inning.

Freshman Cabria Baldwin belted a 2-out single in the Lady Eagle 7th inning. Sophomore Gabriella Bray ripped a single to center field, and an error on the play scored Baldwin with the East Bladen run.

Baldwin and Bray both batted 2-for-3 to lead the East Bladen hitters. Senior Laura Davisson blasted a triple in the Lady Eagle 6th inning but was stranded on base. Sophomore Martha Simmons beat out an infield hit for the other East hit.

Davisson started in the circle and pitched 4.1 innings allowing 3 runs – 2 earned – on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7. Senior Karli Priest worked 1.2 innings of relief and allowed 2 runs – 1 earned – on 2 hits while striking out one.

Baggett batted 2-for-2 with 2 doubles and scored 3 runs to lead the Midway attack. McLamb and Autry added 1 hit each and had 1 RBI each.

The 2 teams will meet again Friday night at East Bladen. The Lady Eagles are now 2-4 on the season.
