BLADENBORO – Senior Peyton Duncan pitched a 2-hitter and struck out 15 batters to lead South Columbus to an 11-1 non-conference softball victory over West Bladen.

Sophmore Reah Lee slammed a run-scoring double, and sophomore Brileigh Ward pounded a 2-run home run over the left-centerfield fence as the Lady Stallions grabbed an early 4-0 lead.

Junior Kaitlynn Brisson walked with 1 out in the Lady Knight 1st inning, and junior Madison Taylor legged out a bunt single. Walks to senior Jessalynn Vendrick and freshman Marlene Crabtree forced home Brisson with a West Bladen run.

South Columbus bunched 4 hits and 2 West errors to score 4 more runs in the 4th inning. Lee and sophomore Olivia Watts cracked RBI singles, and junior Alexuz Barnes slammed a run-scoring double as the lead grew to 8-1.

Freshman Greenley Hardee ripped a double in the South 5th inning, and Lee and Duncan belted RBI singles. Junior Bella Coleman drove in the final Lady Stallion run with a double in the 6th inning.

Starting pitcher Kylie Durden smacked a single in the 5th inning for the Lady Knights. Taylor beat out the bunt single, Brisson walked and scored a run, and Crabtree’s bases-loaded walk earned her an RBI.

Durden pitched 2.1 innings and allowed 7 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out two. Taylor relieved and pitched 3.2 innings giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and a walk.

Lee batted 3-4 with a double, 3 RBI’s and 3 runs scored for South. Coleman and Hardee both finished 2-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI each. Ward slugged the 2-run homer. Watts added an RBI double.

West Bladen, now 1-3, will travel to South Columbus Thursday at 6 p.m.
