TEACHEY- East Bladen swept a non-conference softball double-header at Wallace-Rose Hill Tuesday night by scores of 9-7 and 5-4. The teams elected to play two 5-inning games in an attempt to get both games in due to the threat of rain in the area Thursday.

East Bladen 9, Wallace-Rose Hill 7

Winning pitcher Karli Priest knocked in the go-ahead run in the top of the 6th inning as East Bladen outlasted Wallace-Rose Hill 9-7 in Tuesday’s opener.

The teams were tied 7-7 after 5 innings, and East senior Alexus Mitchell was hit by a pitch to begin the 6th inning. Priest smacked a single to centerfield that scored Mitchell with the go-ahead run. Freshman Mollie Tolar laid down a bunt single, and junior Maegan Burney’s fielder’s choice plated Priest with an insurance run.

Priest retired the Lady Bulldogs without a hit in the home half of the inning to preserve the win. Priest struck out 5 and walked 3 while allowing 7 runs – 3 earned – on 7 hits.

Wallace jumped on top 3-0, before freshman Gabriella Bray slapped a single to rightfield to start the Lady Eagle 3rd inning. Junior Emma Turbeville hammered a double that scored Bray and trimmed the margin to 3-1.

Burney and Bray drew walks to begin the East Bladen 4th inning. Freshman Martha Simmons laced a single to right-centerfield that plated Burney. Junior Laura Davisson hammered a double to right-centerfield that scored Bray and Simmons to tie the game 4-4.

Wallace capitalized on a bases-loaded throwing error to go up 7-4 in the home fourth, but the Lady Eagles answered with 3 in the fifth. Tolar was hit by a pitch, and Robinson spanked a single to centerfield that scored Tolar. Bray raked a single to left and an error on the play scored Robinson. Simmons smashed a double to centerfield that scored Bray and knotted the score 7-7.

Bray led the Lady Eagle hitters with a 2-3 game and 3 runs scored. Simmons batted 2-4 with a double, a run scored and a run batted in. Davisson doubled home 2 runs. Turbeville delivered a run scoring double. Priest and Robinson delivered RBI singles, and Tolar singled and scored a run. Mitchell, Priest, Burney and Robinson scored runs, and Burney picked up an RBI.

East Bladen 5, Wallace-Rose Hill 4

East Bladen overcame a 4-run deficit to edge Wallace-Rose Hill 5-4 Tuesday night in the nightcap of their softball double-header.

Dyiamon Robinson beat out an infield hit to start the Lady Eagle 3rd inning, and Gabriella Bray walked. An error on Emma Turbeville’s drive to leftfield scored both Robinson and Bray to trim the Wallace lead to 4-2.

Mollie Tolar cracked a 1-out single in the East 4th inning, stole 2nd base and raced home when Maegan Burney swatted a single to right-centerfield.

Martha Simmons led off the Lady Eagle 5th with an infield hit, and Laura Davisson lashed a single to rightfield. Walks to Turbeville and Mariah Smith forced home Simmons with the tying run. Davisson was forced out at the plate, but Tolar’s fielder’s choice brought home Turbeville with the winning run.

Davisson pitched all 5 innings and allowed 4 runs – 3 earned – on 5 hits and a walk while striking out five.

Simmons batted 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead the East hitters. Tolar finished with a single, an RBI and a run scored. Burney belted an RBI single. Robinson singled and scored a run. Davisson added a single. Turbeville and Bray scored runs, and Smith and Bray drove in runs.

Coach Chris Davisson’s Lady Eagles improved to 2-1 and will host rival West Bladen Tuesday night in their Southeastern Athletic Conference opener.
