RED SPRINGS – West Bladen exploded for 9 runs in the top of the seventh inning to seal an 18-8 Three Rivers Conference softball victory over Red Springs Friday night.

Junior Carley Dawson hammered an inside-the-park home run and a double and finished with a 3-6 night at the plate to lead the Lady Knight hitters. Senior Brittney Landreth cracked 3 hits in 4 at-bats for West Bladen.

Sophmore Alara Cashwell walloped an out-of-the-park home run and drilled a double to finish 2-5 at the plate. Sophmore Kyla Reed slugged a triple and a single in five at-bats for the Lady Knights.

Senior Madison Collins slammed a double and a single to finish 2-3 at the plate for the winners. Senior teammate Abby Dawson belted two singles in four at-bats.

The Lady Knights jumped in front with a five-run first inning and tacked on a single run in the second. Red Springs closed the gap to 6-4 in the home half of the second.

West Bladen scored a single run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to grow the lead to 9-4. Red Springs pulled to within 9-8 before the 9-run Lady Knight outburst in the seventh.

Collins went the distance in the circle to pick up the win. The righthander struck out nine and allowed 8 runs – only 3 earned – on 5 hits and 3 walks. The Lady Knight defense committed five errors.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights evened their record at 1-1 and will host East Columbus Tuesday night.
