SHALLOTTE – South Columbus jumped in front with a 5-run 1st inning, and East Bladen stranded 8 runners on base as the Lady Stallions claimed a 6-2 victory in the final round of the Spring Break Softball Tournament at West Brunswick High.

Carmen Buck and Bella Coleman slammed doubles during the Lady Stallion 1st inning, and Alexus Barnes and Olivia Watts added singles. An error and 2 walks also aided the South Columbus cause.

Freshman Niyah Wooten led off the East Bladen 4th inning with a single, and sophomore Martha Simmons beat out an infield hit. Sophomore Mollie Tolar delivered a 2-out single to left-center field that scored Wooten and Simmons and trimmed the lead to 5-2.

Senior AnnaGrey Heustess and sophomore Martha Simmons both batted 2-for-3 to lead the East hitters. Senior Karli Priest finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Tolar belted the 2 RBI single, and Wooten, senior Laura Davisson and sophomore Gabriella Bray collected 1 hit each. Wooten and Simmons scored runs.

The Lady Eagles left 2 runners on base in the 1st, 4th and 7th innings.

Buck doubled in the 6th inning for South and scored on Reah Lee’s single. Buck finished 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored. Lee was also 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Coleman doubled home a run.

Freshman Jenna Brice pitched the 1st inning for the Lady Eagles and allowed 5 runs – 4 earned – on 4 hits and 2 walks. Priest worked 6 innings of 4-hit relief allowing a run, a walk and a hit batter while striking out 8.

Olivia Watts scattered 10 hits while striking out 5 and walking none to pick up the win for South.

East Bladen, now 6-10, will host Fairmont Tuesday night in a Southeastern Athletic Conference game.
