TARBORO – Working its way through the loser’s bracket after a tough loss in the opening round, the Bladen County 10U softball team made it to the championship game of the State Activities Committee state tournament before losing to unbeaten Randolph County 7-5 on Sunday afternoon.

Along the way, Bladen County avenged a 1-0 opening round loss Saturday to Henderson-Vance by capturing a 4-3 decision against Henderson-Vance in Saturday night’s semifinal. Bladen County also beat Nash County 12-4 on Saturday.

Bladen County rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie it in the fourth inning. Tatum Allen led off the inning with a walk and Brenna Hester had a hit to right field. After an out, Niyah Wooten reached on an error.

However, Randolph County put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-2 advantage. Two walks, a hit and error plated the run.

Bladen County countered with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to pull within a run, using walks to Jenna Brice and Addi Wilson along with Gracey Clark being hit by a pitch.

Again, Randolph County answered by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-4 lead.

Leea Wilkins led off Bladen County’s final at-bat with a single and later scored to cut it to 7-5, but Bladen County couldn’t get another run on base.

Jenna Brice pitched all games for Bladen County.
