CHAPEL HILL – West Bladen’s Marley Fletcher won her opening round singles match Friday in the NCHSAAA Class 2A Mid East Regionals but was then defeated in the 2nd round. A trio of Bladen doubles teams – 1 from West Bladen and 2 from East Bladen – were eliminated in the opening round at Cedar Falls Park.
Fletcher, a senior, rolled past Zoey Riddle of Bartlett Yancey 6-0, 6-2 in her opening round match, then dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision to Randleman’s Emily Roach.
West Bladen’s sophomore doubles team of Kaden Thurman and Lainey Autry lost their opening round match to Atty Bostwick and Taylor Bond of the Durham School of the Arts. 6-1, 6-2.
East Bladen’s doubles team of seniors Lily Lin and Alyssa Futrell dropped a 6-1, 6-0 opening round decision to McMichael’s Danni Lester and Lauren Tuttle.
The Lady Eagle doubles team of senior Carlie West and junior Heather Hardin were defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Wheatmore’s Kara Comer and Taylor Comer.
