TABOR CITY – South Columbus survived a rough night at the foul line and held off East Bladen 57-49 in Three Rivers Conference boys basketball action Friday night.

The Stallions only connected on 7 of 19 free throws in the final quarter but still outscored the Eagles 15-11 in the final frame. Shiquane Conyers made 5 of his 12 foul shots in the quarter. Teammate Aaron Bellamy drained a 3-point shot and another basket.

Eagle senior Sincere Smith sank 5 of his 6 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter and also knocked down a 3-point shot as East Bladen made 6 of their 8 foul shots in the quarter but couldn’t overtake the Stallions.

For the game the Eagles hit 9 of their 18 free throw attempts while the Stallions made only 13 of their 33 foul shots.

Tyquawn Johnson pumped in a 3-point shot and a trio of 2-point shots to lead the Stallions to a 15-11 first quarter lead. Smith fired in 3 baskets and a free throw to keep the Eagles close.

Senior Adonis Avery drained a 3-point shot and another basket, and Smith added two more baskets as East Bladen narrowed the lead to 28-27 at halftime. Guard Messiah Leach knocked down a 3-point shot for East in the period.

Riley Hewitt nailed a pair of 3-point baskets, and Johnson added a basket and a free throw to keep South on top at halftime.

Bellamy threw in a 3-ball and two free throws as the Stallions widened the gap to 42-38 at the third quarter break. Conyers contributed a basket and 2 free throws, and Hewitt popped in another 3-ball.

Leach drilled in a 3-point shot and another basket to keep the Eagles close. Smith and junior Keshaun Davis added a basket each.

Smith topped the East Bladen scoring with 21 points, and Leach racked up 10 points before fouling out.

Bellamy and Johnson shared scoring honors for South with 14 points each, and Conyers totaled 11 points.

East Bladen will travel to rival West Bladen Tuesday night.
