DUNN – Senior Sayaun Dent fired in 16 points Friday night to lead West Bladen’s Knights to their thirteenth straight win – a 51-36 Four County Conference victory over Midway.

The Knights took charge early rolling to a 16-6 first quarter lead as Dent nailed a 3-point shot and another basket, and senior John Bowen dropped in a pair of baskets. Junior Scott Bowen drilled a 3-point shot, Drew Harris tossed in a basket, and senior Kalvin Page cashed in a pair of free throws.

“Drew Harris was a man out there tonight,” said Knight Coach Travis Pait. “He boxed out really well. We came out and pressured them and our trap really hurt them. We deflected a lot of passes and our length bothered them.”

John Bowen and Page drained 3-point shots in the second quarter, and Dent, John Bowen and Jonathan Robinson added a basket each as the Knights kept the halftime margin at 28-18.

“Kalvin is one of our best 3-point shooters but that was only his second attempt of the season because we need him to do other things, but he is a really good shooter,” said Coach Pait.

Dent threw in a basket and a free throw in the third quarter. Page hit 2 free throws, and John Bowen netted a basket as the Knights outscored Midway 7-5 to push the West lead to 35-23.

“We decided to get them out of their zone,” continued Coach Pait. “We teased them for a while, and they finally came out. Once they went man, we felt like we were in control.”

Dent connected for 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the final quarter, and junior Jimmy Williams sank 5 free throws in the period. Page added a basket and a free throw as the Knights outscored Midway 16-12.

John Bowen finished with 12 points for the Knights, and Page followed with 10 points. Williams tallied 5 points.

“The kids played well,” said Coach Pait. “Gerardo (Reyes), Keshawn (Lewis) and Scott (Bowen) did a good job of filling in for Kalvin when he got in foul trouble.”

Greg Orr delivered a pair of 3-point baskets and led the Midway scoring with 10 points.

West Bladen, now 13-2 overall and 6-0 in conference play, will travel to Fairmont Monday night for an Endowment Game.

WEST BLADEN (51) – Kalvin Page 10, Scott Bowen 3, Jimmy Williams 5, Keshawn Lewis, Drew Harris 2, Sayaun Dent 16, Gerardo Reyes, Jonathan Robinson 3, John Bowen 12.
