ELIZABETHTOWN – Sophmore Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson poured in 25 points to lead East Bladen to a 52-10 Four County Conference girls basketball victory over Union Friday night.

Moore-Peterson just missed a double-double with 9 rebounds and also dished out 3 assists and had 5 steals. Junior Shardajah Brown tossed in 11 points, and freshman Patience Ward racked up 6 points, 7 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 assists.

Senior Emily Scott finished with 6 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Senior Yolanda Coston grabbed 4 rebounds and dealt out 4 assists, and sophmore Ashley Hardin totaled 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

Moore-Peterson drained a 3-point shot in the first period and added 2 more baskets to spark the Lady Eagles to a 13-6 lead. Senior Justyna Gargala tossed in 2 baskets in the quarter for the winners.

Moore-Peterson nailed another 3-point shot in the second quarter and hit 2 more baskets as the East Bladen lead grew to 24-8. Brown bombed in a 3-point shot in the period, while Union was held to only 2 points.

The Moore-Peterson barrage continued as the sophmore threw in a trio of baskets and a free throw in the third quarter as the East lead swelled to 35-8.

Scott drove for a trio of lay-ups in the final quarter. Ward flipped in a runner and turned a steal into a lay-up. Brown popped in a jumper and hit 2 free throws, and Moore-Peterson put in a rebound basket and a free throw.

“Everybody played and played well,” said East Bladen Coach Patty Evers. “We take pride in our defense and this was a great defensive effort. We were more patient on offense and took better shots in the second half.”

The Lady Eagles improved to 5-1 in the Four County and 13-3 overall. The East Bladen girls return to action next Friday at Midway.
