WHITEVILLE – Whiteville’s Wolfpack pulled away in the fourth quarter to post a 70-57 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over West Bladen Tuesday night.

Whiteville held a 35-31 halftime lead, but the Knights opened the second half with a 9-0 run. Senior Kesean Lewis drained a 3-point shot, and junior Tyre Boykin drove for lay-ups that became 3-point plays and vaulted West in front 40-35 with 6:36 on the clock.

The Wolfpack answered with a 12-1 spurt to take a 47-41 lead at the quarter break.

Senior Jaheim Lesane drove for a lay-up, and Cameron Taylor banked in a baseline runner to trim the margin to 49-45. Cameron Richardson ignited a 13-6 Wolfpack surge that padded the lead to 62-51 and featured 3 lay-ups and 2 free throws from Antonio McFadden.

A Ty Moss lay-up and a Wendell Smith 3-pointer pushed the Whiteville lead to 67-53 with 1:53 remaining.

“Turnovers, turnovers – needless turnovers,” said Knight Coach Travis Pait. “If we don’t throw the ball away, we win the game. I thought we outplayed them.”

Boykin pumped in 22 points to lead the Knight attack. Lewis finished with 11 points, and Lesane followed with 7 points and 3 steals. Junior Nolan Bryant knocked down a pair of 3-pointers for 6 points.

Senior Jackson Norris blocked 6 shots and grabbed 7 rebounds for the Knights. Senior Cameron Taylor pulled down 5 rebounds and scored 4 points. Senior Kerron Washington added 5 points.

Senior Cameron Richardson led the Wolfpack scoring with 18 points, and junior Antonio McFadden finished with 17 points.

Richardson racked up 9 points during a 13-3 run that started the game. Bryant and Washington bombed in 3-point shots to rally the Knights. Boykin canned a free throw and drove for a pair of lay-ups as the visitors battled back to tie the game 15-15.

William Godwin knocked down a 3-point shot, and Richardson dropped in a lay-up for a 20-15 Wolfpack lead at the quarter break.

Boykin buried a 3-point shot to begin the second period then drove for two lay-ups and a free throw to close the gap to 26-23.

Bryant and Lesane nailed 3-point shots to tie the game 29-29, but Whiteville’s Tyjuan Anderson drove for a lay-up and 2 free throws to put the home team ahead 35-31 at halftime.

The Knights will be idle until they open play in their own Adidas Christmas Tournament next Thursday at 8 p.m.
