WHITEVILLE – Elizabethtown raced to an early 7-0 lead and held off a late Whiteville rally to claim an 8-6 victory Monday night in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 AA (Coach-Pitch) Supplemental Tournament.

Elizabethtown jumped in front with four runs in the first inning. Liam Heath, Landon Pusey, Greylon Robinson, Maddox Thornton, John High and Isaiah Lloyd belted hits, and Heath, Pusey, Robinson and Thornton scored runs.

The winners tacked on three runs in the third inning to pad their lead to 7-0. Pusey and Robinson started the inning with hits, and High walloped a home run that scored Pusey and Robinson.

Whiteville trimmed the margin to 7-2 in the top of the fourth, but Hayes Clifton smashed a hit and scored to pad the lead to 8-2. Whiteville scored three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth for the final margin.

High batted 2-for-2 with the home run to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Robinson and Pusey both finished 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs each. Heath batted 2-for-3 with a run scored. Thornton. Lloyd and Clifton added one hit each, and Thornton and Clifton scored runs.

Elizabethtown remained undefeated in the tournament and will play Whiteville again at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the championship game of the double-elimination event.
