TABOR CITY — Juniors Iveonna “NeNe” Ward and Laila Smith combined for 45 points and East Bladen raced to leads of 15-0 and 28-6 enroute to a 55-13 Waccamaw Conference girls basketball victory over South Columbus Thursday night.

Ward topped all scorers with 24 points, and Laila Smith followed with 21 as Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles remained atop the Waccamaw with a 6-0 league record and 14-2 overall mark. East Bladen will travel to 2nd place East Columbus (6-1 in league, 13-1 overall) Tuesday night.

Laila Smith fired in a 3-point shot, 2 other baskets and 2 free throws in the opening quarter. Ward tossed in 3 baskets as the Lady Eagles grabbed a 15-0 lead.

Laila Smith bombed in another 3-ball, another basket and a free throw in the 2nd period. Ward drilled in a 3-pointer and another basket, and freshman Tyliah Freeman popped in a basket to push the East halftime lead to 28-6.

Ward blistered the nets with 5 baskets and 3 free throws in the 3rd quarter. Laila Smith threw in a trio of baskets, freshman Aaliyah Monroe buried a 3-point shot, and senior Zoe Smith sank 2 free throws as the margin swelled to 52-8.

The final quarter was played with a mercy-rule running clock and East freshman Tatum Allen drained a 3-point shot to close out the Lady Eagle scoring.

Jenaysha Jackson led the Lady Stallions with 7 points.
