DUNN – An 18-5 second quarter spurt propelled Midway to a 31-18 halftime lead and eventual 56-35 Four County Conference girls basketball victory over West Bladen Friday night.

The Lady Knights battled the Lady Raiders to a 13-13 tie in the first quarter. Senior Logan Autry fired in a 3-point shot and another basket for West Bladen in the quarter. Senior Laikyn Pait sank 3 free throws, and center Jerena Purdie tossed in a basket and a free throw for the Lady Knights.

J. J. Sankey threw in 6 points and Leah Williams added 5 for Midway in the opening period. Hannah Lucas popped in 5 points for the Lady Raiders in the second quarter, and Sankey and Williams tallied 4 points each to lead Midway to the halftime lead.

The Lady Knights were held to only 5 points in the quarter – 4 free throws by Pait and one by senior Akira Grimes.

Sankey and Williams scored 5 points each in the third period as the Lady Raiders used a 15-8 run to stretch the lead to 43-26 at the quarter break. Pait pumped in a basket and a free throw for West in the period, and Autry and Grimes added a basket each.

Pait led the Lady Knight scoring with 13 points, and Autry finished with 9 points. Grimes added 5 points.

Sankey topped the Midway scoring with 17 points, and Williams followed with 16 points. Teammate Logan Baggett bombed in a trio of 3-point shots and totaled 9 points.

West Bladen, now 4-2 in league play and 8-7 overall, will travel to Fairmont Monday night for an Endowment game.
