East Bladen High SchoolROCKY POINT – Sophmore Devan Stocks pitched 5 strong innings and struck out nine to lead East Bladen to a 14-8 Four Conference jayvee baseball victory over Heide Trask Thursday.

Stocks allowed only 2 runs – one earned – on 5 hits and a walk to pick up the victory. Teammate Spencer Scott pitched the sixth inning and gave up 6 runs – 3 earned – on 5 hits and a walk while striking out two.

The Eagles tallied one run in the first inning. Freshman Shy Pone belted a single, stole second base and came around to score the run on an infield out and a wild pitch. Trask answered with a run in the bottom half on 2 hits and 2 errors.

With one out in the Eagle second inning, Tanner Meares slammed a double and raced home when Eric Chancy smacked a single. Chancy stole second base and darted home on Rhett Burney’s single. Scott Howell cracked a single, and Greyson Heustess knocked him in with a single that put East ahead 4-1.

Scott was hit by a pitch and Meares walked with 2-out in the third inning. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and dashed home when Chancy delivered a single that pushed the lead to 6-1.

Trask tacked on a fifith inning run, but the Eagles exploded for 8 runs in the top of the sixth. Meares reached base on an error, stole second base and scooted home on Chancy’s third hit of the game.

Chancy stole second base, and Dan Tatum reached base on a fielder’s choice. Scott Howell swatted a single to drive in Chancy. Heustess laced a single and stole second base, before Pone drove in Howell and Heustess with a single.

Freshman Pierce Melvin hammered a double to drive in Pone then stole third base. Stocks knocked in Melvin with a single and moved up on a wild pitch.

Scott reached on an error that scored Stocks, and walks to Meares, Cromartie and Tatum forced home Scott with the final Eagle run.

Chancy batted a perfect 3-3, drove in 4 runs and scored one to lead the East hitters. Heustess finished 2-4 at the plate with a run scored and a run batted in. Pone and Howell both batted 2-4 with a run scored and an rbi each.

Meares smashed a double and scored 3 runs. Melvin walloped the rbi double and scored a run. Stocks, Scott and Burney collected one hit each. Scott scored twice, and Stocks and Burney had a run scored and an rbi each. Tatum also had an rbi.

The Eagle jayvees improve to 3-1 in the league and 6-2 overall and will return to action on April 5th at Union.
