TABOR CITY – East Bladen pulled away with a 14-5 closing run and defeated South Columbus 42-30 Monday night in a non-conference junior varsity boys’ basketball season opener.

The Eagles entered the final period with a narrow 28-25 lead, but Zac Metz and Peyton Tatum sank 3 free throws each, and Chace Butler tossed in 2 free throws and a basket. Metz and Shannon Hankins also dropped in field goals in the quarter.

Shannon Hankins led the East Bladen scoring with 10 points. Metz finished with 8 points, and Butler and Chris Harding added 5 points each. Andrea Todd’s 9 points topped the Stallion scoring. Cole Edge followed with 8 points.

Harding sparked the Eagles to the early 11-5 lead with 2 baskets and a free throw. Metz and Hankins nailed 3-point shots in the 2nd quarter to keep the Eagles on top 17-15 at halftime.

Hankins threw in a 3-point bomb and another basket in the 3rd period, and Sharman Long connected on 4 of 4 free throws to keep East Bladen ahead 28-25.

Coach Aking Elting’s Eagle jayvees will host Grays Creek on November 30th.
