BasketballA late rally came up just short Tuesday night as West Bladen dropped a 41-36 Four County Conference decision to visiting Pender in jayvee boys basketball action.

The Patriots led 31-20 entering the final period, but sophomore John Bowen fired in 9 of his team-high 13 points in the final quarter to lead a Knight rally.

Bowen’s rebound basket trimmed the Pender lead to 38-31, and teammate Kasson Page turned a rebound into a 3-point play that whittled the margin to 38-34 with 1:35 left.

However the Patriots made 3 of 4 free throws to push the lead to 41-34, before Gerardo Reyes’ lay-up sliced the final margin to 41-36.

Bowen posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Reyes followed with 10 points, 4 rebounds and a steal.

Kalvin Page dished out 5 assists and had 2 steals and 4 points. Kasson Page yanked down 9 rebounds to go with his 4 points. Teammates Hunter Jackson and Zion Barrett grabbed 5 rebounds each, and Jackson tallied 4 points.

The Knights are now 6-5 in Four County play and 10-7 overall. West Bladen will travel to Clinton Friday night for a 6 p.m. game.
