RED SPRINGS – Red Springs defeated East Bladen 2-1 Wednesday in Three Rivers Conference volleyball action by set scores of 25-10, 21-25 and 15-11.
Junior Adrienne Howell smacked in a trio of service points for East Bladen in the first set, but the Lady Red Devils reeled off an 11-point service run en route to take the set.
Two service points each from freshmen Merritt Martin and Alexis Mitchell kept East Bladen even at 9-9 in the second set. Two more Martin service points edged the Lady Eagles ahead 15-13, but Red Springs rallied back in front at 21-19.
Sophmore Cheylee Mathis rallied the Lady Eagles by serving out the set with six straight service points.
Mitchell delivers a pair of service points in the final set, and Mathis added one but Red Springs took the set and match.
Mathis fired in 6 aces, and 3 kills and led East Bladen with 7 service points. Martin drilled in 3 aces and finished with 5 service points. Sophmore Cheyanne Merritt hammered in 2 aces.
Mitchell rang up 5 service points that included one ace. Howell tallied 3 service points, and junior Shanell McMillian slammed in a kill and a service point.
