Bladen County’s Kayla Thompson qualified for the Australian Women’s PGA schedule on January 8-9.
Playing at Coolangatta Tweed Heads Golf Club, Kayla shot even par 72 the first day and six-under par 66 the second day for a two day score of 138. The first day of qualifying was played in the rain. She finished tied for 5th place out of 60 players for the 36 holes.
The qualifying tournament was won by Olde Mizuki, who shot 67-66=133.
Thompson is qualified to play the following Australian WPGA schedule:
Jan. 13-14: Melbourne International at Latrobe Golf Course.
Jan. 25-28: WebEx Player Series Victoria at Rosebud Golf Club.
Feb. 1-4: Vic Open (former LPGA event) at 13th Beach Golf Links.
Feb. 8-11: WebEx Player Series Sydney at Castle Hill Country Club.
Feb. 15-18: WebEx Player Series Hunter Valley at Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort.
The WebEx events are co-sanctioned with the men’s tour for elevated purses.
Thompson graduated from West Bladen High School and UNC Wilmington. She lives in Clarkton.
