Kayla Thompson’s first Australian tournament, The Melbourne International, a 36 hole stroke play contest, was cancelled due to flood waters.

Although it was a great disappointment, things turned out well for Thompson. An Athena event was hosted on Sunday for the players. The Athena event consisted of 4 challenges … long drive contest and closest to the pin challenges from 50 meters, 90 meters, and 130 meters, was held. After all 4 challenges, Thompson finished tied for 12th place and earned $585.

Her next tournament is the WebEx Player’s Series Victoria at Rosebud Golf Club Jan. 25-28.

Thompson graduated from West Bladen High School and UNC Wilmington. She lives in Clarkton and has worked at Vineyard Golf at White Lake.
