CLARKTON- Omar Powell pitched a 5-hitter and struck out 9 batters as Clarkton School of Discovery pounded out 17 hits and defeated Tabor City 17-4 in Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball action Tuesday.

After the Eagles went up 1-0 on a walk, a passed ball and a single, the Blue Devils answered with 4 runs in the home first. Prince Powell cracked a 2-out single, Jaxon Hair walked, and Noah German, Aidan Trinidad and Cayden Moore smacked back-to-back-to-back singles for a 4-1 CSD lead.

The Eagles scored a run in the 3rd, but again Clarkton rang up 4 runs in the home half for an 8-2 lead. German walked, and Trinidad belted a single before Cayden Moore slammed a double that plated German and Trinidad. Rex Register knocked in Moore with a double, and Hunter Wood drove in Register with a single.

Hair blasted a home run to lead off the 4th inning and stretch the Blue Devil lead to 9-2. Tabor City answered with 2 runs in the 5th, but in the home 5th, Wood singled, advanced on an error and scored when Hair smashed a single for a 10-4 Clarkton lead.

Moore reached on an error, and Ryne Priest walked to start the Clarkton 6th inning. Register swatted a single that plated Moore, and Omar Powell hammered a double that scored Priest. Wood walked, and Cayden Morton reached on an error that scored Register and Omar Powell.

Hair knocked in Wood with a single, and Trinidad’s single plated Prince Powell and Hair.

Hair batted 3-for-4 with the home run and 3 runs scored to lead the CSD hitters. Trinidad was also 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored. Wood finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Moore batted 2-for-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Register was also 2-for-4 with a double and 2 runs scored.

German finished 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored, and Omar Powell batted 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Prince Powell singled and scored a run, and Morton and Priest scored runs.

Coach Robert Mazur’s Blue Devils improved to 2-0 in league play and 2-1 overall and will host Nakina Thursday.
