CLARKTON – Lee Barnes and Noah Hall combined for 23 points during a 28-8 Clarkton School of Discovery surge that carried the Blue Devils to a 48-33 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Tabor City Thursday night.
With Tabor City leading 25-20 at halftime, Barnes and Hall ignited the Clarkton rally scoring 3 baskets each in the third quarter. Barnes tacked on 2 free throws, teammate Rodney Lacewell made one foul shot, and Blaine Pope threw in a basket as the Blue Devils took a 37-31 lead.
Hall sank 3 free throws and a basket in the final period, and Barnes and Lacewell connected on 2 free throws each as the Blue Devils outscored the Red Devils 11-2.
Barnes topped all scorers with 23 points, and Hall racked up 15 points. Lacewell totaled 6 points. J. Dixon led Tabor City with 9 points.
Two baskets and a free throw from Barnes, a Lacewell basket and 2 free throws by Hall kept the Blue Devils even a the first quarter break. Barnes burnt the nets with 4 free throws and 2 baskets in the second quarter. Lacewell and Keyon McKoy hit one free throw each in the period.
Coach Robert Mazur’s Blue Devils improved to 4-1 in Waccamaw Division A play and 6-1 overall and will host Nakina Monday.
