TAR HEEL – Carnell Lewis and Demarious Guions combined for 24 points Tuesday night to lead Tar Heel to a 35-16 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Bladenboro.

Lewis sank 3 free throws and a pair of baskets in the opening quarter as the Panthers raced to a 13-2 lead. Dylan McLaurin bombed in a 3-point shot, Guions threw in a basket, and Jordan King added a free throw. Gaston Russ popped in a basket for the Bulldogs.

Guions and Lewis tossed in baskets for Tar Heel in the 2nd period. Isaiah Minus fired in a 3-point shot, and Sincere McKinley pumped in a basket to keep the Bulldogs within 17-7 at halftime.

Guions filled up the rims with 2 baskets and 3 free throws to key an 11-2 3rd quarter spurt that stretched the Tar Heel lead to 28-9. Levi Velasco-Garcia and Lewis netted Panther baskets in the period, and Corben Chadwick scored the only Bulldog basket during the run.

Lewis, Cedrick McKiver and Gregory O’Neal scored Panther baskets in the final period, and McKiver tacked on a free throw. McKinley answered with 2 baskets for the Bulldogs. Chadwick hurled in a basket, and Keithan Russ added a free throw.

Lewis topped all scorers with 13 points, and Guions tallied 11 points. McKinley led the Bulldogs with 6 points, and Chadwick followed with 4 points.

Tar Heel improved to 2-0 on the season and will travel to West Columbus Thursday. Bladenboro is now 1-1 and will host Tabor City Thursday.
