ELIZABETHTOWN – Kayshaun McCollum fired in 18 points to lead Whiteville Central to a 49-38 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Elizabethtown Thursday night.
McCollum scored 5 points, and Bryson Cokley tallied 4 as the Hornets built a 14-10 first quarter lead. Dominick Collins nailed a 3-point shot, and Malcolm Bolden dropped in a basket and a free throw for the Cougars in the period.
Kyah Ganils pumped in 5 points to lead a 15-8 Central spurt that padded the lead to 29-18 at halftime. Bolden threw in 2 baskets, and Cameron White sank a basket and a free throw for the Cougars in the second quarter.
Bolden tossed in 2 more baskets in the third quarter, and Jacob Nixon buried a 3-point shot. Zamar Lewis added a basket to pull the Cougars to within 36-27 at the quarter break.
Collins knocked down another 3-point shot, and Bolden cashed in 4 free throws in the final quarter for Elizabethtown. White and Nixon tacked on a basket each.
Bolden led the Cougar scoring with 15 points. Collins finished with 6 points, and White and Nixon tallied 5 points each.
McCollum topped all scorers with 18 points for the Hornets. Ganils followed with 12 points, and Cokley totaled 10 points.
Elizabethtown, now 4-1, will play in the Bladen County Tournament at Tar Heel Tuesday.
