ELIZABETHTOWN – Ellen Battle and Zariyahh Riddy combined for 22 points Thursday to lead Elizabethtown to a 34-9 victory over Nakina in their Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball opener.
Riddy rang up 6 of her 10 points in the 1st half as the Lady Cougars raced to a 14-7 lead. Battle fired in 4 of her game-high 12 points before halftime, and Kaitlyn Chambers and Morgan Hammon added a basket each.
Battle lit up the scoreboard with 8 points in the 3rd quarter, and Racquel Whittington added an Elizabethtown basket as the lead grew to 24-7. Riddy threw in a pair of baskets in the final period, and Sana’a Singletary, Hammon and Whittington netted baskets to cap a 20-2 2nd half surge for the winners. Hammon and Whittington finished with 4 points each.
Elizabethtown will host East Columbus Tuesday.
