ELIZABETHTOWN – Alexus Mitchell poured in 25 points to lead unbeaten Elizabethtown to a 36-20 Bladen Five Middle School Conference girls basketball victory over Bladenboro Thursday night.

Mitchell drove to the basket for 3 baskets and a free throw in the opening period. Lainey Hughes and Ronkira Lennon added a free throw each as the Lady Cougars built a 9-3 lead.

Lauren Pait rang up a first quarter basket for Bladenboro, and Hannah Hester sank a free throw. Hester threw in a basket in the second period, and teammate Rylee Chadwick nailed a 3-point shot.

However Mitchell dropped in 2 baskets and a free throw to keep Elizabethtown ahead 14-8 at halftime.

Mitchell tossed in 2 more baskets in the third quarter, and Zoe Smith scored a basket to stretch the Lady Cougar lead to 20-8.

Mitchell racked up 3 baskets and 3 free throws in the final period, and Lennon connected for a pair of baskets. Teammate Azariah Rhodie added a basket, and Hughes tacked on a free throw.

Lauren Pait buried a 3-point shot and another basket in the final quarter for Bladenboro. Teammates Grace West and Hayden Larrimore pumped in a basket each, and Ariel Mayers hit a free throw.

Lennon finished with 5 points for the Lady Cougars. Lauren Pait topped the Bladenboro scoring with 7 points.

The Lady Cougars improved to 3-0 in the Bladen Five with the victory.
