CLARKTON-Karli Priest and Maddie Taylor teamed up to pitch a one-hitter and strike-out 5 batters as Clarkton School of Discovery defeated Tar Heel 17-0 Monday in Waccamaw Middle School softball action.

Priest pitched 2 innings and allowed a hit and a walk while striking out four. Taylor struck out one in a perfect 1-2-3 third inning.

The Lady Blue Devils scored four runs in the first inning. Emma Turbeville and Maegan Burney drew walks, and Addie Bowen reached base on a passed third strike. Taylor and AnnaGrey Heustess belted singles, and Turbeville, Bowen, Burney and Taylor scored runs.

Cydney Campbell reached base on an error to start the Lady Blue Devil second inning. Priest, Bowen, Shy’Asia Ratliff, Burney and Heustess drew walks in the inning. Turbeville was hit by a pitch, and Taylor hammered a double to centerfield. Campbell, Priest, Turbeville, Bowen, Ratliff, Burney, Taylor and Heustess scored runs in the inning to stretch the lead to 12-0.

Emmee Ward, Lena Trinidad, Dyiamon Robinson and Heustess drew walks in the Clarkton third inning. Taylor and Priest cracked singles, and Ward, Trinidad, Robinson, Taylor and Heustess scored runs in the inning.

Taylor batted 3-3 with a double and 3 runs scored to lead the Lady Blue Devil hitters. Priest and Heustess added one hit each. Heustess, Turbeville, Bowen and Burney scored 2 runs each. Priest, Ward, Ratliff, Trinidad, Robinson and Campbell also scored runs.

Molly Pait smacked a single for the Tar Heel hit. Gracie Faircloth started in the circle for the Lady Panthers.

Coach Jordan Raynor’s Lady Blue Devils improved to 7-2 in the Waccamaw’s AA Division and 8-2 overall. Clarkton will travel to Whiteville Central Tuesday April 16th. Tar Heel will host Hallsboro Thursday.
