BLADENBORO –Addison Wilcox slugged a home run and a triple to knock in 5 runs and lead Bladenboro to a 13-5 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory over Nakina Wednesday.
Coach Hayley Baxley’s Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-1 and will host Whiteville Central on April 11. It was the 1st loss for Nakina who drops to 3-1.
Allison Hickman pitched a complete game 6-hitter and struck out 9 batters to pick up the win but issued 9 walks. At the plate Hickman walloped a home run and a double, had 2 runs batted in and scored twice. Wilcox batted a perfect 4-for-4 and scored 3 times.
Hadley Dove turned in a 3-for-3 game at the plate and scored twice. Caity McLaurin batted 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run. Chloe Walters finished 2-for-2 at the plate and scored twice. Maycee Kinlaw batted 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Liz Miller singled and scored a run.
Nakina grabbed an early 1-0 lead as Shy J. was hit by a pitch and raced home on Lenzy C.’s double.
Bladenboro answered with 7 runs in the 2nd inning. Dove, McLaurin and Miller started the inning with singles. Dove and McLaurin scored on an error, and Walters walked. Kinlaw sliced a single to right field that scored Miller, before Wilcox blasted her 3-run homer to left field. Hickman hammered a double to left, and Dove and McLaurin belted singles that scored Hickman.
Nakina bounced back with a 4-run 3rd inning and trimmed the lead to 7-5. Shy J. and Sarah Reaves reached base on errors, and both scored when Ella W. pounded a triple to center field. Pitcher Riley Suggs drove in Ella W. with a single, and Addison Faulk drove in Suggs with a single.
Wilcox roped a single to left and circled the bases when the ball eluded the left fielder. Dove walked, and McLaurin slapped a single past shortstop. Dove later scored to bump the lead to 9-5.
Walters smacked a single, and Kinlaw yanked a double to left in the Bladenboro 5th inning. Wilcox walloped a triple to left that scored Walters and Kinlaw. Hickman clobbered a 2-run homer to left field that padded the final margin to 13-5.
Ella W.’s 2-run triple led the Lady Mustang hitters. Lenzy C. had an RBI double, and Scotlynn B. doubled. Shy J. singled and scored twice, and Suggs singled and scored. Faulk also had an RBI single.
