ELIZABETHTOWN-Laura Davisson pitched a 3-hit shutout and struck out 9 batters Thursday to lead Elizabethtown to a 6-0 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory over Whiteville Central.

Davisson only walked one batter in the game and retired the final 12 batters that she faced.

Davisson reached base on an error in the Elizabethtown third inning, and Iveonna Ward and Lainey Hughes drew walks. Davisson scored to put the Lady Cougars ahead 1-0.

Laila Smith, Lauren Council, McKenzee Kellam, Davisson and Ward drew walks that forced home Smith and Council in the Elizabethtown fourth inning. Lainey Hughes hammered a double that scored Kellam and Davisson and stretched the Lady Cougar lead to 5-0.

Council walked in the Elizabethtown sixth inning, and Kellam belted a single. Davisson reached base on a fielder’s choice, and Hughes knocked in Council with a single.

Hughes batted 2-3 with a double and 3 runs batted in. Davisson and Kellam added one hit each. Davisson and  Council scored two runs each, and Kellam and Smith scored one run each. Davisson and Ward had one rbi each.

Coach Tarrah Woodruff’s Lady Cougars improved to 4-3 overall and lead the Waccamaw’s AAA Division by one game. Elizabethtown is scheduled to play at Emereau Charter Monday.
