ELIZABETHTOWN- Jenna Brice pitched a 1-hitter and struck out 12 batters to lead Emereau Bladen to an 8-2 victory over Whiteville Central Tuesday in middle school softball action.

Brice walked 2 and hit a batter. She retired the final 10 batters that she faced.

After Central grabbed a 1-0 lead, Tatum Allen was hit by a pitch to begin the Lady Aviator 1st inning. Taylor Dowless walked, and Gracey Clark knocked in Allen with a double to leftfield. A passed ball and a throwing error on the same play allowed Dowless and Clark to dash home and vault Emereau ahead 3-1.

Central trimmed the margin to 3-2 in the 2nd inning, but Brice lined a single to left-center and Greer Pope was hit by a pitch in the Emereau 3rd inning. An error on Skyler Allen’s single scored both Brice and Pope to stretch the lead to 5-2.

Tatum Allen walked in the 4th inning, stole 2 bases and scooted home on Dowless’ single. Dowless circled the bases on 2 stolen bases and a wild pitch to pad the lead to 7-2. Tatum Allen walked in the 6th inning, stole a base and eventually scored the final run on an error.

Brice, Clark and Dowless connected for 1 hit each for the winners. Tatum Allen walked 3 times, was hit by a pitch and scored 3 runs. Dowless walked twice and scored 2 runs. Clark slammed the RBI double and scored a run. Brice singled and scored a run. Pope was hit by a pitch and scored a run.

Coach David Allen’s Lady Aviators improved to 2-0 with the win and will host Grace Christian from Sanford Friday at 4 p.m.
