Morgan SweeneyBladenboro native Morgan Sweeney batted 2-5 with a run batted in and 3 runs scored as her Newberry Lady Wolves swept North Greenville Saturday by scores of 7-0 and 9-0 in college softball action.

In the first game, Sweeney finished 1-3 and knocked in a run with a single that capped a 4-run second inning for the Lady Wolves.

Sweeny walked in the first inning of the nightcap, stole second base and raced home on Ann Dee Priest’s single.

In the third inning, Sweeney ripped a single to left field, moved up on a single and sprinted home on another Priest single.

Sweeney reached base on an error leading off the fourth inning and dashed home when teammate Hailey Drawe hammered a triple.

A West Bladen grad, Sweeney has seen action at second base and as a designated player. She is currently batting .438 with 7 hits, 6 runs scored, 5 rbi’s and a slugging percentage of .500.

The Lady Wolves remain unbeaten at 8-0 and will travel to Florence (SC) Wednesday for a double-header against Francis Marion that starts at 3 p.m.
