CARY – East Bladen sophomore Johnny Alvarado qualified for the NCHSAA Class 2A Cross Country State Championship meet Saturday with his 23rd place finish in the Class 2A Mid East Regional at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Alvarado, who won 3 Southeastern Athletic Conference races during the season, posted a time of 18 minutes, 24.83 seconds for the 5,000 meter race. The top 29 finishers in the regional advanced to the state meet.

Other Eagles who competed Saturday were: senior Jacob Knuth, 33rd place (19:23.81); junior Heunter Demery, 78th place (23:30.88); junior Jacob Caulder, 89th place (25:14.04); junior Ivan Alvarado, 94th place (25:36.49).

West Bladen sophomore Demon’tre Love finished in 39th place with a time of 19:58.62. Seaforth sophomore Jack Anstrom won the regional with a time of 16:22.1.

The N.C. School of Science & Math won the boys regional team competition with a total of 27 points. East Bladen placed 11th with 289 points. SAC-7 foe Clinton was 10th with 272 points.

Sophomore Kemora McMillian led the East Bladen runners in the girls race with a 46th place finish in 26:21.69. Other Lady Eagles running included: sophomore Sabars McLean, 60th place (28:09.71; sophomore Galoriella Bray, 70th place (30:20.98); freshman Niyah Wooten, 73rd place (32:09.91.

West Bladen runners in the girls race were led by senior Kirsten Warwick, 54th place (27:29.45). Other Lady Knights included: sophomore Holland Davis, 59th place (28:06.98); senior Lainey Autry, 61st place (28:43.44); senior Kaden Thurman, 64th place (28:57.67,

Junior Emily Myers of Franklin Academy won the girls race in 19:58.1. N. C. School of Science & Math won the girls team regional as well with 33 points. Midway was 8th with 207 points.
