Week In ReviewEast Bladen posted dominant wins in football and fūtbol last week. It’s been a remarkable season for both Eagles’ teams.

The East Bladen boys’ soccer team routed Trinity 5-0 on Saturday in the opening round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2-A state playoffs. Garrett Melvin scored two goals and Jay McGill, Grayson Heustess and Jake Evans scored goals. The Eagles, now 18-1-2 and the No. 7 seed in the East, are scheduled to host Dixon on Tuesday in a second-round game.

East Bladen closed its regular season Oct. 30 with a 5-0 victory against Whiteville to finish 13-1 in the Three Rivers Conference.

The West Bladen boys’ soccer team finished its season with a 4-2 loss at Red Springs. Edgar Pollo Garcia and Marcos Rojas scored for the Knights, who finished with a 7-7 league record and 7-11-2 overall.

In foootball, East Bladen had to wait an extra day to play rival West Bladen. The Eagles gave up a touchdown in the opening minute, but recovered quickly and toppled the Knights 48-12 at the Castle. The game was delayed a day until Saturday because of heavy rain and thunderstorms forecasts Friday night.

Eric Chancy ran for two touchdowns and Shy Pone caught two touchdown passes from Zach Meares for East Bladen, now 8-0 in the Three Rivers Conference and 9-1 overall. The Eagles closes the regular season Firday, Nov. 9 at South Columbus that will decide the league title.

Tyre Boykin and ran for a touchdown and passed to Shyron Adams for a score for West Bladen, now 1-9 overall and 1-8 in the league. The Knights close the season Nov. 9 against Red Springs.

On a brighter note for the Knights, Callie Lewis and Jacob Hester were named as the West Bladen winners of the Wendy’s High School Heisman. Lewis just completed her senior volleyball season for the Lady Knights, while Hester will be looking to begin his senior tennis season in the spring of 2019.West Bladen,

Bladenboro was the lone Bladen County middle school football team to win last week. The Bulldogs beat Williams 30-6. Gary Parker and Anthony Mitchell each ran for two touchdowns.

Clarkton School of Discovery was the lone Bladen County middle school volleyball team to open the season with two victories.

With its fall sports underway, the Bladen County Recreation Department is looking ahead to winter. The department began registration for youth basketball last week. It continues through Nov. 30.
