ELIZABETHTOWN –East Bladen exploded for 13 runs in the 1st inning and cruised to an 18-3 Waccamaw Conference softball victory over West Columbus Tuesday night.

Coach Alan West’s Lady Eagles improved to 2-7 in Waccamaw play and 4-8 overall. East Bladen is slated to travel to West Brunswick for a non-conference game Wednesday before visiting West Columbus Thursday night. West Columbus is 0-7 in the league and 3-12 overall.

Juniors Martha Simmons and Mollie Tolar and sophomore Niyah Wooten all drew walks to begin the East Bladen 1st inning. Sophomore Jenna Brice knocked in Simmons and Tolar with a double to right field. Sophomore Gracey Clark’s fielder’s choice plated Wooten. Freshman Tatum Allen was hit by a pitch, and Nadya Colon, the courtesy runner for Brice, darted home on an error.

Jamiee Perkins reached base on an error that scored Allen. Sophomore Cabria Baldwin was hit by a pitch, and freshman Taylor Dowless slammed a double to left field that scored Perkins and Baldwin. Simmons walked, and Tolar ripped a double to left that scored Dowless and Simmons. Tolar scored on Wooten’s fielder’s choice.

Brice walked, and Clark reached base on catcher’s interference. Allen swatted a double to center field that scored Colon, the courtesy runner for Brice. Perkins reached base on an error that scored Clark and Allen.

Dowless and Simmons drew walks to start the Lady Eagle 2nd inning. Tolar smacked a single to right that scored Dowless. Freshman Nevaeh Brown walked, and Brice’s fielder’s choice plated Simmons. Clark raked a single to centerfield that scored Tolar and Brown and boosted the lead to 17-0.

Taylor Lancaster’s single, 2 errors and Layla King’s triple produced a trio of Lady Viking runs in the 3rd inning. Dowless reached on an error in the home 3rd, moved up on a passed ball and raced home with the game-ending run when Simmons yanked a single to left.

Tolar batted 2-for-2 with a double, 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored to lead the East hitters. Allen slugged 2 doubles, had 1 RBI and scored twice. Brice doubled and had 3 RBIs. Dowless doubled, had 2 RBIs and scored 3 runs. Clark and Simmons added 1 hit each.

Clark had 3 RBIs. Wooten and Simmons had 1 RBI each. Simmons scored 3 runs, and Colon scored 2 runs. Baldwin, Perkins, Clark, Brown and Wooten scored 1 run each.

Brice pitched 3 innings allowing 3 unearned runs on 2 hits and a walk while striking out 7. Freshman Kaleigh Blackwell pitched all 2.1 innings for West Columbus.
